Hello! My name is Sydnee Johanesen, but the kiddos call me Miss Jo! I was born and raised in Bakersfield, California. I started my education journey by teaching ballet when I was 14 years old and loved it for ten years. I took some time off to pursue retail management and even got to travel for it, but I dearly missed working with children. I decided it was finally time to put my Bachelors Degree in Mathematics to use and start my career in education. I moved to Colorado Springs in September of 2024 and immediately began subbing, which is where I stumbled upon New Summit Charter Academy! My first day here I made so many heartfelt connections with students and staff, I couldn’t wait to come back. That being said, I am beyond thrilled to teach math to our fantastic Middle Schoolers. We're going to be rockstars in and out of the classroom! Rockstars that prioritize honesty, respect, and the growth mindset, of course!

If I’m not in the classroom, you’ll probably find me enjoying a cup of coffee, crocheting, thrifting, reading, or going on an adventure with my boyfriend, Jaxon! We love anything outdoors, going to see movies, trying new restaurants, and taking in the beauty Colorado is so plentifully offering us!
